Scone ODE will be remembered as cold, windy and dusty but also as a very successful event. The sponsorship from Mt Arthur Coal has really assisted Scone Horse Trials which has meant that, with Wayne Copping as Course designer, around $40 000 has just been spend to revamp the higher classes. The lower grades will now also be improved. As Belinda is still nursing her broken finger, she had plenty of time to cheer the riders on. Jo Perrottet placed second in the Newcomers class on her big Clydie cross “Oscar”. The pair are proving to be very consistent performers, having recently won the Newcomers class at the Coffs Harbour ODE. Adora Roberts presented “Tallyho Arizona” for his first eventing start and had a successful event with a clear in both the cross country and showjumping phases.
Madeline was again in the ribbons on Cosmos, placing fourth in the Introductory (second in the Juniors).

Update to next ODE 24th–25th October
We are offering a wonderful prize for the winner of the One Star class at the next Wingham ODE. The lucky winner will receive a stallion service for the current breeding season to our impeccably bred young warmblood stallion, Paris Hill.
Paris is by Ideal De Valette, a Selle Français stallion imported to Australia and campaigned here at World Cup Showjumping by Jeff Bloomfield.
A spectacularly scopey horse, Ideal is now competing with Jeff in Europe.
Paris is out of a mare by Stirling Sprite, who was ridden at Grand Prix showjumping level by Olympian Vicki Roycroft and who has also passed on his great talent to his progeny. Paris’s dam is by the renowned Dusky Hunter, sire of numerous eventers and showjumpers competing at the highest levels all over the world.
Paris is displaying soft movement and athleticism but as he is just a three year old he has not as yet been started under saddle. However, he is a proving to be a very good-natured horse and is a pleasure to handle.
For more information on Paris Hill, see our Stallion @ Stud page.
Dinner will be available at Wingham Showground on Saturday evening. The two course meal will be catered by the award winning Tellers Restaurant at the very reasonable cost of $20 per head. Following dinner a DJ will be playing all your favourite music so you can settle in, catch up with friends and even have a dance. Bookings for dinner to be made with entries.
Spring ODE Clinic successfully held on Sunday 13th September
Wingham Eventing Club held a Spring One day Clinic on Sunday 13th September. All riders applied themselves diligently and it was rewarding to see the obvious improvement in the softness the riders achieved with their horses, both on the flat (with Carolyn Murphy) and over jumps (with Belinda). We're sure that everyone left feeling that they had made great progress and felt encouraged to build on the skills learned.
Participants included Madeline Coomber on Snowy and Cosmos. Madeline was our “demonstration” rider for the cross country as Belinda had broken a finger and was unable to ride, and she did a lovely job. Lydia Williams attended on her very kind mare and Tanaishia Lakeman (the little ‘pocket rocket’) brought along her pony and her lovely new T/B being introduced to cross country for the first time. Adora Roberts showed some beautiful work on the flat with her eye-catching Trakhener stallion, Tally Ho Kahlua. Adora had kindly donated a service to him (or to her other stallion Tally Ho Jupiter) as a main prize for the latest Wingham ODE. Adora also rode her pure-bred gelding over jumps, making it all look so easy! Siobhan Walker (better known in the Show Jumping arena) was also introducing her very keen horse to cross country for the first time.
We are planning a three day Summer Camp in January and details will be posted once they are finalised. However, if you are interested in attending this or other future clinics, please register your interest by phoning or emailing us.
A dinner and entertainment is planned to be held at Wingham Showground on the Saturday evening.
If anyone has some time to assist us at our next event, please contact us and we will happily allocate you a task. All assistance is much appreciated.
We once again have secured the services of Ross Green (congratulations to Ross who placed in his 1st Grand Prix attempt with Catalina Florencia at the MV Dressage Championships, and is off to judge at the State Dressage Championships), and the evergreen and highly respected Helen Zimic. We were competing for judges against a judge's clinic to be held locally over the same weekend, and so are also grateful to Liz Mudd who is coming up from the Hunter Valley to assist.

Manning Valley Dressage Championships 22nd-23rd August
Cosmos had his first start at Medium level at the Championships, which was held in beautiful spring-like weather. He scored 60.5% and was placed 6th so he now has his first medium official points and Belinda was delighted with him.
Madeline won Champion Unofficial Gelding and Reserve Champion Junior Pony with Snowy. Belinda was busy pencilling when Madeline rode her first test where she uncharacteristically made two errors of course.
As a result, she decided to use backup and get mum to call the next test. Sounds like a good strategy but whoops, mum made a mistake in calling and another error of course. So Madeline finished in 2nd place in both these tests.
Happily, the third test was mistake free for a win on 66%.

Succesful 2nd ODE held at Wingham and Bellview Park
Wingham Eventing Club held its 2nd ODE with classes extending up to 1* this time.
Rider horse combination entries were up substantially on the inaugural event.
With all the rain over the winter and the postponement of this competition it was great to be blessed with a drying spell that made the going good, as well as having two beautiful sunny days for the event.
The change of venue for the dressage and showjumping to the old Racecourse at Wingham proved successful as it provided ample flat area for vehicles, horses and arenas.
Ashleigh Dand was the lucky winner of the stallion service provided by the very generous Tallyho Trakheners.
Tallyho Trakheners kindly donated a Stallion Service to the value of $2,200 for the best performed horse.
Ashleigh has a choice of a service to one of the two purebred Trakhener stallions - Tallyho Jupiter or Tallyho Kahlua.
A special thank you to the judges, pencillers and everybody who assisted us through the weekend.
Brendan Barnes was our on call farrier and he was assisted on Saturday by Rodney Brown, who was called upon to do some last minute farrier help and then obligingly judged four cross-country fences.
Our neighbour, Tony Round, deserves a special mention as he allowed us the use of his paddock for parking on Sunday and he backed up very tentatively as a cross country jump judge.
Initially daunted over the prospect of his allocated job, Tony found it so enjoyable that he was heard to joke that, even if he is away working when we hold our next event, he will take a “sickie” he enjoyed it so much.
Thanks also to Vicki and Darryl Burgess (Vicki was so up-to-date with results she even had time to have a chat)!
Clyde River Jumping
We recently videoed a little of Clyde River's workout. He is a young clyde-x that we currently have for sale.
As you can see from the video he has nice elasticity and is quite scopey.
Further details can be found on the Sale page (click here).
Quirindi ODE 25th – 26th July
We travelled over to Quirindi where we enjoyed beautiful sunny days and freezing nights.
As a result the footing on cross country was perfect. Belinda rode 3 horses and although
Cosmos didn't score highly in the dressage, he did a solid job and we are confident his day will come.
We will definitely be back to Quirindi – the warm up areas were great, the showjumping arena was spacious and the cross country fences were well built.

Riders had the choice of individual Dressage lessons and/or Cross Country schooling on the Saturday, and/or Show Jumping training and a Cross Country Equitation competition on Sunday, so everyone was able to personalize their experience to best suit their current training needs.
Saturday turned out to be a beautiful, warm and sunny day and the weather held out quite well on the Sunday with just a few showers coming in late in the afternoon.
Carolyn Murphy’s Dressage lessons were greatly enjoyed, as were the Cross Country schooling sessions with Belinda.
Three hours were spent in the Show Jumping arena on Sunday morning with everyone jumping several rounds at various heights to improve their technique. The stars of the Show Jumping section were Jane Allen and Joanne Perrottet who stepped up to jump 90cm rounds for the first time.
Then it was off to the Cross Country course for the Cross Country Equitation class, with the assistance of the always effervescent Nicky Wellbourne, who has taken on the role of “official starter” like a duck to water!
Useful prizes, such as horse feed and head collars, and indulgence prizes, such as wine and chocolates, were presented in lieu of ribbons with an enthusiastic reception.
We would like to extend a special thanks to all of you who attended and assisted over the weekend. We have received requests to also train for distance, time and speed in the next school and if you have any other suggestions, likes and dislikes, or a wish list, do let us know.

Berrima Horse Trials
The Briars International One Day Event (Berrima CIC) was held on April 18th and 19th and was a great success despite some bleak weather on XC day.
The Junior Introductory class was well-supported and was divided into two divisions. Madeline was placing 5th after the dressage phase on Snowy and held on to that position out of 19 starters in her division in the final results. Belinda and Cosmos went well in the Pre Novice so are now qualified to go One Star.
