Our Old News

Berrima ODE

A hearty Congratulations to Wingham Eventing Club member Jo Perrottet who, on her Clydie cross Oscar, won the Newcomers class at Berrima Horse Trials last weekend. Well done, Jo!

Manning Valley Dressage & Hacking Club Pauline Elliott Memorial Day 29th November 2009

We took a team of five horses to our last local competition for the year, held in very hot conditions. Classic Cosmo (by Cosmos out of Linton Fair) had his debut at dressage. (Cosmo pictured below).

As Belinda already had three horses to ride, Madeline took the reins for Cosmo's first competition. He was extremely well-behaved and gave Madeline a lovely ride, scoring 1st in Prep 3 and 5th in Prep 1.
More information on Cosmo can be found on our For Sale page.

Madeline also rode Snowy for 2nd in the 2A and 1st in the 1B with 70%.

Belinda rode Bru Dell Baylon for his owner Toni Summerville, who was thrilled with his Official results when he scored 2nd in the 1C with 65% and equal first in 1D with 62%.

Jane Allen's very reliable Mr Amigo placed with percentages in the 60's in his Official Novice tests.

Still a relative newcomer at Medium level, Cosmos also performed well for a 3rd in the 4C. (Cosmos pictured above).

Wingham ODE 24th - 25th Oct 2009

The forecast rain periods held off until after all competitors had headed off home on Sunday at our third One Day Event held last weekend. A keen band of judges and helpers, lovely weather and lots of prizes donated by our generous sponsors ensured a very enjoyable weekend.

Dressage and show jumping were held at Wingham Racecourse on Saturday with one judge commenting on the pleasing quality of the horses she judged adding that, on the day’s performances, her top six would certainly be worthy winners in “pure” dressage competitions. Ron Porter allocated generous space for the show jumping and built very fair and smooth flowing courses.

For those who camped at Wingham Showground, a meal was provided by Avril (of the award-winning The Bank Guest House & Tellers Restaurant) and she and her team also kindly stepped in at short notice (due to a last minute cancellation by the previously booked caterers) to serve breakfast and lunch both days. A disco was also held on Saturday night where Jacob’s (Belinda’s son) dance card was kept fully booked!

The cross country courses rode really well and it was rewarding to see the number of smiling riders coming home to say “That was great!”, “How good was that?” or “Gooood Boyyy!”. Thanks to Technical Director Glen Inwood and Daryll Burgess who also made the time to give some first time jump judges some much appreciated expert assistance and reassurance.

Vicki Burgess had the results out in record time and the prize giving was well-attended. The class winners all received kersey rugs of a beautiful quality supplied by Horsecraft Rugs and Accessories, who also donated the rug for the winner of the 1* which was won by Amanda Young and Bijou II. Amanda also received a complimentary stallion service to our warmblood stallion “Paris Hill” for the current breeding season. Hamish Cargill finished on his dressage score to win the Pre Novice on Tahoe, receiving a rug donated by Over The Top Equipment. The Preliminary class was won by John McIntyre and Final Salute whose rug was donated by Fiddlers Green Irish Sport Horse Stud. Andrew Hindmarsh and Southern Cross Nashira were the Introductory winners and the Newcomers class was won by Laura Stanton and Sky High Rosie. The award for the highest placed Wingham Eventing Club Junior member was Madeline Coomber on Cosmos (who is only just old enough to start at Preliminary level) and the Senior member was Carolyn Murphy on Friand.
